Case #3: Competitive intelligence for Southeast Asia healthcare service portfolio expansion
A Singapore-based private equity group with significant holdings in the healthcare services sector retained us to augment their planned acquisitions in several markets across Southeast Asia.
The client’s internal business development group had already completed a detailed analysis of the potential acquisition targets based on past-performance data and overall market growth projections. We were retained to provide a competitive intelligence assessment for each potential target market as part of the due diligence process to supplement their internal assessments and projections.
Our team quickly deployed across the region, including to Thailand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
We met with stakeholders in each target market, researched local media and recent employment listings, met with former employees of competitors, and leveraged several other competitive intelligence strategies and tactics. We delivered a competitive intelligence assessment of all significant competitors in each region based on actual on-the-ground, primary intelligence. This assessment was much more timely, accurrate, and valuable than the third-party, secondary research-based reports that our client had considered beforehand.
The insights, intelligence and confidence we delivered to our client indicated both likely as well as imminent competitive activities occurring in the target markets. As a direct result, our client adjusted their investment allocation, redirecting nearly 20% of the total planned investment to maximize opportunity and minimize risk.
