A leading US home health care services provider was providing the vast majority of their services as wound care. However, their profit margins on such services were very low, with many patient care episodes resulting in a net loss for the firm.

They engaged Diligence Wound Care Global to help them assess and implement:

  • Proper metrics and KPIs for understanding and managing home wound care delivery

  • Analysis and improvement of their supply selection and usage process, including negotiations with existing and new product vendors

  • Training and empowerment of clinical managers and staff in clinically effective product selection that could reduce excess visits and dressing changes

Among other activities, we reviewed the client’s relevant internal data, interviewed their clinicians and administrators, and benchmarked them against the rest of the industry. We also renegotiated substantially improved supply pricing, streamlined certain categories, and added some innovative new products that could reduce dressing change frequency for certain types of wounds.

Deliverables included a presentation to the company’s senior management, as well as a workshop for clinical managers and staff. The outcomes were a 27% reduction of costs per 60-day care episode from reduced staff and supply costs, as well as improved top-line revenues due to operational and other efficiencies. Clinical quality outcomes actually simultaneously improved as a result of the recommendations and implementation.
